Twenty eight of our Year 10 students have just achieved the Bronze Level Arts Award, a nationally recognised certificate, in association with Trinity College, London. Over the last academic year, our students have worked with the 'Children and the Arts' scheme, taking part in puppetry and drama workshops as well as working hard in school. As part of their certification, they got the chance to see top-flight theatre by watching performances of 'War Horse' and 'Doctor Jekyll and Mr Hyde' at the Alhambra Theatre. They each produced an extensive personal portfolio of creative work and research which culminated in them team-teaching groups of Year 7 students how to make and perform with a paper puppet. Without exaggeration, it's been amazing to see these students become young men just through their engagement with the arts. The Trinity College moderators stated that it was a 'pleasure' to moderate their portfolios and gave no development targets whatsoever for us as their work was so strong! The students will receive their certificates in the autumn term.
