Industrial Action - Wednesday, 1st February 2023
Dear Parents/Carers,
Futher to the letter which was sent on Monday, I write to update you about the plans for next Wednesday 1st February.
We stated that our intention is to keep schools open wherever possible and take all reasonable steps to ensure that this is the case. However, the school needs to ensure that in doing so it is able to meet the health and safety requirements for pupils and staff who do not wish to strike. We have taken the decision to open to all Year 11 students on a shortened day, and to students who currently receive additional support. All other children will be set work to complete at home.
Year 11 in school
All Year 11 students will be required to come into school for an 08.30 start. They will attend masterclasses for their core subjects and attend an important session on revision skills, which is vital to prepare our Year 11 students for their mock exams, which start after the February half term. Students need to enter the school in the usual way. Students will finish at 12.00 on this day.
Students who receive additional support
We have identified a number of students in other year groups who we think will benefit from completing work in school on 1st February. Families of these students will be contacted by the end of this week to confirm this with them. Identified students will come to school for their usual time (to be on site by 08.15) entering through the usual entrance. Students will finish at the normal time of 14.35.
Students in school, free school meals
For Year 11 students and identified students who will be in school on the 1st February, who usually receive a free school meal, will be provided with a grab bag lunch.
Students learning from home, free school meals
For students who are not in school and are learning from home on the 1st February who usually receive a free school meal, will be able to pick up a grab bag from the canteen during dismissal on Tuesday 31st January.
Remote learning
For students who are learning from home (Year 7, 8, 9 and 10) remote learning will be set. Links to this work will be available from our website and students will bring home a sheet with them telling them what to do and how to access their work. The work is largely accessed online. If your child will not be able to access the online work, due to not having the internet or a device, please contact school so we can arrange alternative work for them.
Again, we realise that this may cause you disruption, for which we apologise. Finally, we would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your patience during this time.
Yours sincerely,
Shirley Watson
