Dear families,
As the academic year comes to a close after a very long half-term, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our families for their continued support and valued feedback. This helps us to become better tomorrow than we are today, and to strive for excellence, integrity and kindness in all we do. Our sole purpose is to provide your child the best chance of a great future despite the economic challenges that we are facing in the country. We have packed a lot into this final term, as usual!
We said goodbye to our Year 11 students with a fabulous celebration at the Mercure Hotel on 18th June. We will be seeing them all again on GCSE results day on Thursday, 21st August at 9.30am. Further information about arrangements for this day can be found on our website here: GCSE Results Day – Thursday 21st August 2025 – Beckfoot Upper Heaton
Our next cohort of Year 7 students were in school for transition day on 2nd and 3rd July to experience taster days at Beckfoot Upper Heaton in preparation for September. They were brilliant! We have more taster days coming up on the 15th, 16th and 17th July for Year 5 students from Beckfoot Heaton Primary where students will experience lessons in Science, Sport, Food
Technology, Art, Textiles and Drama. There is a strong tradition of Beckfoot Heaton Primary School students enrolling at Beckfoot Upper Heaton.
There have been other opportunities for our students to experience learning outside their classrooms. For instance, Year 10 visit to Hornsea for their Geography Field Trip, Year 9 Science and Technology Challenge Day, Oxford/Cambridge seminars, NCB Festival, Cliffe Castle. We are also very proud to announce the excellent Year 10 football match win against Eden Boys’
Academy with a nail biting 10-9 win! Fantastic!
The Great BUH Sports Day took place on Friday, 4th July. The day, the events, the participation, the winning and the medals meant so much to so many students across all four year groups. It was a real team effort!
As you know, raising attendance has been one of our whole-school priorities this year, and will continue to be. As part of our strategy for encouraging students to attend school every day, as a reward, 125 students will be attending the Flamingo Land trip on Monday 21st July.
Please take the opportunity over the summer break to check that your child has full school uniform, PE kit and equipment for learning. After listening to our students, we have made the decision to allow students to wear black leather type trainers or shoes from September. These need to be completely black with no coloured logos or stripes please. Students in Years 8, 9 &
10 will keep the same colour tie. Year 11 will be given a black tie free of charge in exchange for their old green tie. New Year 7 students will purchase a purple tie from Natasha’s School Wear.
Before we say goodbye to staff and students on Wednesday, 23rd July, we will be holding a Mega Mela on this morning. Students can come to school in either traditional dress or their sportswear of a team they support. After the success of our last culture day, we would, again, ask students to contribute £1 towards children’s charity, UNICEF. UNICEF help children in
emergencies around the world. Students are welcome to bring small amount of loose change on this day to take part in events. There will also be an ice-cream van on site from 10.30am.
Students will be served a hot meal at break time on this day. The school will finish for students at 12.05pm. We have arranged for the school bus to come early.
Look out for the final BUH Bulletin which contains important information to keep your child safe and entertained over the summer break! If the warm weather continues into August, please stay away from rivers and reservoirs.
On behalf of all BUH staff, may I wish you an enjoyable and safe summer holiday. We look forward to seeing Year 7 and Year 11 students on Wednesday, 3rd September at 8.00am, and all other students on Thursday, 4th September at 8.00am prompt.
Yours sincerely,
Mr B K Dey
Headteacher
