Beckfoot Upper Heaton achieve Artsmark Gold Award

Am_Schl_Gld_CMYKWe are proud and delighted to share with you that Beckfoot Upper Heaton School has been awarded an Artsmark Gold Award. This is a fantastic achievement and a further example our remarkable students exploring creativity with very talented creative colleagues.

Read what Artsmark had to say about the award below.

Congratulations to all!

Beckfoot Upper Heaton is to be commended for its commitment to providing a range of cultural and artistic opportunities for pupils. You have raised the profile of arts across the whole school’s community by employing a range of strategies and initiatives including the “Make Your Future” project, which was the catalyst for your Artsmark journey. This week-long activity involving Year 7 pupils enabled both teachers and students to raise their skill levels and expectations by working with two professional textile designers and university educators, culminating in students displaying their work in a local gallery. It is also good to read about the increased uptake of Music for KS4 over the past two years and improvement in uptake and success rates in Art at GCSE level with GCSE Art now at full capacity, rising from 8 students in 2017-18 to 25 in 2019-20, and the pass rates rising from 47% in 2017-18 to 61% in 2018-19, hopefully these trends will continue in the future. You have also provided students with a range of authentic cultural experiences including trips to galleries and theatres. Students have also had the opportunity to regularly perform including at One Bradford One Band and an end of year school celebration with a students’ orchestra, choir and dance, and this has increased parental engagement at school events. Despite the challenges Covid19 presents, you have still provided creative responses and shared an aspirational model for development of online learning. It would be good to build a case study around this initiative as you continue your Artsmark journey. You may also want to consider how you could develop teacher CPD opportunities in partnership with your local Music Hub, which could also help you to develop your School Music Education Plans.

Congratulations on your Artsmark Gold Award!
